Sohrâb & Pâris

ph. Laurent Champoussin

When he is not happily climbing snow-covered mountains, Pâris, a Russian greyhound, likes to sleep (a lot). This tendency does not disturb his master Sohrâb, who is used to sharing his life with cats (much, much smaller ones).

Back to his roots

"I'm a dancer and choreographer and I travel a lot, usually in France, during my time off; it's at these times that my partner and I enjoy our dog the most. But the problem (and the advantage) of Pâris is that he is big... And transporting a greyhound is complicated: we use an SUV in which he occupies the trunk (and our luggage the back seat)! Every year, we go to the Pyrenees for New Year and, when we approach the mountains, Pâris knows it, feels it and becomes a little more excited before arriving. There, we know for sure that as soon as we open the trunk and he sees the snow, Paris is happy. He runs, sniffs... He's a Russian dog: it's his element!”

" Apart from that, overall, Pâris is calm, not nervous at all. He's not the kind of dog who makes a mess or starts eating things in the flat if he can't go out! His days are rather monotonous: he sleeps a lot (almost twelve hours a day) and occupies the whole sofa. In fact, I often say that he is more like a cat than a dog. But depending on my work and rest times, his daily routine will change slightly: at the moment, for example, I'm entering a calmer period and we can go for longer walks where he can meet his friends on the banks of the Seine (he's an extremely sociable dog).”

Dog complaints

"One of the reasons I don't take him to the studio is that, although he is gentle and calm, Pâris's biggest fault in my opinion is that he hates all music (although he can handle jazz a little better). We have tried - because it is difficult, we listen to a lot of music - but we have not found any explanation... When he hears it, he gets excited or, on the contrary, shows a great internal sadness and, above all, he starts to "sing" and ends up leaving the room! So classical lessons on the piano are hell... Even the credits of a film will make him "sing": you can hear it from the adjacent room!”
