Nathalie & Sweety
ph. Amedeo Abello
story by Serena Evely
Sweety is the most devoted spectator of Nathalie's rehearsals - who is a choreographer and performance artist. The dog attentively watches the movements, contractions and extravagances of her mother and the dancers around her, who also provide her with many cuddles.
Flexible
"When I moved to Paris, I was afraid to have a pet whilst living in a flat. When I moved to the 14th arrondissement, near a park where dogs are allowed, I had no excuses anymore, and I had the pleasure of adopting Sweety via an association. She was one and a half years old. She adapted very quickly to Parisian life: she is intelligent, sweet, happy and does everything to fit in in any situation... So, I travel with her (quite frequently, because of my occupation) and take her everywhere I can, even to work! I work as a dancer for several companies (where she becomes the mascot every time)."
Front row seats
"Sweety seems to know when I'm going to rehearsal: she's much more excited while getting ready to go out; she gets all pumped up to go to work! She loves to watch the rehearsals where I have taught her to stay in her basket. When I say "Sunshine", she is allowed to get out of the basket and run around... This is also the moment when she receives the most attention from the dancers: everyone comes to cuddle with her and give her a pat on the back! And she brings a lot of comfort and energy: she attaches herself differently to each team and person."
Pantomime
“In my company, we work a lot with musical instruments and costumes that are a bit weird and surreal. The sounds, the noises, the visuals, the people screaming into the microphones frightened and impressed Sweety at first when I took her to rehearsals. At times she will still hide under a seat and think "Oh my, what are they doing?" I think she's understood that they're fake bad guys; the theatrical dimension of things!”
