Liv & Romy
ph. Jonathan Llense
Liv is a ceramic artist. During walks far from the crowd or in the large studio she shares with her brother in Pantin, she and her dog Romy have been nurturing their relationship and their respective love of solitude for over a year.
Tormented
"Romy was rescued from the street. My sister had received a link from an Instagram story that indicated that a litter of dogs had been abandoned on the island of Reunion and had been taken in by an association, with whom I quickly got in touch. She is super shy, very timid: she is a traumatised dog. When we're in the street, especially on major roads, or if someone starts running, comes out of nowhere or seems threatening (in Paris, these are normal situations for us), she gets scared and very upset.”
Solitary together
"The first time I felt completely at ease with Romy was during a walk in a forest in Picardy, one morning in January; it was just her and me. The fact that she's shy prevents me from doing certain things but also allows me to do new things, like taking the canal de l'Ourcq and walking for an hour instead of taking the metro for fifteen minutes. It fulfils a desire for solitude that I experience too and which I make the most of with her.”
Workshop roommate
"Romy is not only shy, at the same time she is quite protective and capricious, sometimes very expressive and playful. I run with her, I let her run free when possible; we go for walks, we cuddle, we play, she travels and comes with me everywhere; and especially in the studio that I share with my brother. In this 200 m2 space, she has room to do everything and anything and she has even more fun on her own when my brother, who is a cabinetmaker, is there too: there are lots of wood scraps with which she can play, do her little things, and have fun!”
